5 Fictional Characters I Most Identify With

And another [week] bites the dust! (Bet I've used that one already . . . XD) Happy End-Of-The-Week, my friends! Funny thing, I was actually asked a question similar to this in one of my classes in the first week. I think it was during my first day of my Marketing class (because our professor is hilarious and he seems like the type to ask this as an ice breaking question). I ended up listing two characters that I felt I would ideally identify with in the fantasy version of myself in my own head, and then I listed another character that I felt was closer to who I am in reality :P To learn more, read on!
#5: Reality - Eadlyn Schreave from The Heir by Kiera Cass! A quote from Eadlyn early in the book helps to sum up why I would choose to include her in this list:
"You are Eadlyn Schreave. You are the next person in line to run this country, and you will be the first girl to do it on your own. No one is as powerful as you."
Not to speak ill of Eadlyn, because I love her as a character, but I know for a fact that I can be a royal bitch sometimes (pun intended). And in particular I have a few friends that are incredibly nice, and for whatever reason my default mode is to turn into an antagonistic character in comparison to their winning personalities because I know deep down that I would never want them to change but their niceness still upsets me because I know in my heart I'm nowhere near as nice as they are. Does that make any sense? Regardless, I've been feeling that way a lot lately, which is why Eadlyn's personality & attitude at the beginning of The Heir comes to mind.

#RoyalWatchAlong - Sunday May 31st

It's that time again, for another great Watch Along! Me and Shelby Dossier are co-hosting a fun evening on Sunday, May 31st where we will be watching both The Princess Diaries & The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement. This is to help celebrate the release of Meg Cabot's Royal Wedding, the first adult fiction addition to her Princess Diaries Young Adult series (which thanks to Shelby I have read in pretty much its entirety XD). We're starting at 6:30PM Eastern, so we will be done with both movies no later than 10PM, and that guess leaves a large margin for error.

If you'd like to watch with us, mark it on your calendars & tweet both me (@KacieCruise) & Shelby (@shelbyfromthtwp), and/or just follow the craziness on Twitter via our hashtag, #RoyalWatchAlong. We look forward to having you guys join in. Everybody's welcome! You can also comment here or on Shelby's post to RSVP as well, although no formal RSVP is required; you're free to just show up on twitter with the hashtag. Looking forward to seeing you there!

5 Nerdiest Things I've Ever Done

Happy Friday, everybody! Since adopting a 9-5 schedule (like the majority of the adult race), Friday has quickly become my favorite day of the week, followed very quickly by Saturday in 2nd place and Sunday in 3rd.

Let me tell you, trying to think back to decide on what the top 5 nerdiest things I've ever done would consist of, I did struggle a bit to decide on what might actually fall into this category. I even reached out to my friends to get their input on nerdy things they might remember me having done in the past. Those, along with a few of my own ideas, are what I've included here :) Many of these are cosplay-related, but not all of them.
#5: I will take any (and I do mean any) excuse to quote from my most obscure fandom! Yep, I'm talking 'bout the Cornetto Trilogy. I'm pretty much always talking about the Cornetto Trilogy. Any chance I get, I'll try and slip in a reference to one of the three movies, such as "You've got red on you" or "Drink up, let's Boo-boo" or, when I'm feeling slightly more daring and am not within the vicinity of any authority figures, "F*** off back to Lego land you c***s!"

What I'm Up To {03.05.15 - 18.05.15}

Hello friends! Since I've gotten behind with posting and I have so much to catch you all up on, I thought I'd do a bit of a longer catch-up post to fill you in on the good stuff. Enjoy!

Reading: Some great books came out this month, and I've made a pretty big dent in the last haul I bought at Chapters. I read The Heir by Kiera Cass (worshiped it!) and Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen (adored it!), and I started to re-read To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han to prepare for her next book but the newer books interrupted that. We had the author Anthony De Sa come talk to us on orientation day and he gave us free signed copies of his new book, and I'm about 40 pages into that, plus I've started to read A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby, which I had started at one point but didn't get very far.

Wednesday Wish List #20 - Geeky T-Shirt Edition

Happy Wednesday, folks! To be completely honest, it's hard to be wanting after things when I've just finished spending a fortune on stuff for my dorm room (more the essentials than anything else - I bought a toaster. XD), but a couple things, mainly t-shirts, have caught my eye, mainly from my Facebook timeline, so here they are :)
#1: Howl's Moving Castle Calcifer T-Shirt! I can't remember where this actually came from, it just popped up on my FB feed for about a week and now I'm unable to find it. Still, I think it's really cute and since I recently re-watched Howl's Moving Castle I wished I had this shirt even more than I normally would :)

Move In Day & A Look At My Dorm

As many of you know, I embarked on quite the journey recently, wherein I have moved from my family home in Welland, Ontario to take on the big city of Toronto for a 4 month Creative Book Publishing post-grad program. I'll be living in residence at Humber College's Lakeshore campus (which is gorgeous, by the way), and the weeks leading up to May acted as prep for moving the necessary stuff (and plenty of snail mail supplies :P) with me to my new temporary home. This is my first time living away from home, so it's all very exciting.

For fun, I decided to document "the big day", May 2nd 2015, over Twitter with a live succession of tweets, using #KaciesMove. I wasn't able to post anything once I made it to the dorms because my dorm suite is essentially a big concrete box XD Plus our concrete box (me and my roommates') is located all the way at the end of this seemingly endless hallway. Here are some pictures from that day that went up on Twitter and a few of what my dorm room looks like now (after a thorough cleaning).

5 Favorite Fictional Moms

I'm ba-ack! XD I can't wait to tell you all about my move-in day where I began living in a college residence for the first time, and a little about how my life here and my program have been going so far, but first, let's take a little time to appreciate some of our favorite moms! I already gave my mom her Mothers' Day gifts before I left, since I wasn't sure I would be able to come home for my first weekend since moving, but she'll definitely still be getting a call from me that day (probably a Skype call - we've thoroughly embraced technology since I've moved away) to let her know how much I love her and appreciate everything she's done for me - including helping me load up the car and move into residence, where I live all the way at the end of a VERY long hallway XD

Here are a few of my favorite moms in fiction. They might not be able to live up to the great example I've had my entire life, but they still come pretty damn close, and here are the top 5 I chose.
#1: Kate Hennessey from 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Tennage Daughter! If there was ever an example of a great power-house mom in television, it had to be Kate from 8 Simple Rules. Not only is she just an amazing character with a great knack for "handling" the kids when her husband and partner Paul is totally out of his depth, but after Paul's death in the show (written due to the death of John Ritter who played the father, husband and patriarch of the family) even with her obviously struggling through the transition into being a single parent of two teenage girls and one near-teenage boy, she rises to the challenge and proves that moms can be both cool and even a total badass while still being responsible and caring parents.
